ABCya.com - Featured Website of the Month (Aug.)

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and you got to enjoy some parts of summer. I know that this summer was unlike anything we’ve experienced in the past, but I hope you were able to make some good memories with your families. I know many of you are probably looking toward September and wondering what the new school year will hold, and I don’t have any answers for you, but I am here to support and point you towards some fun online resources to use with your children.

So without further adieu, this month’s website feature is ABCya.com. ABCya is a fun resource for elementary-aged students. Once you’ve created your account, it will bring you to the home page where you can select a button with your child’s grade level. Then different activities will come up that are appropriate for that grade. The activities are categorized into different categories: Letters, Numbers, Holiday, Strategy and Skill.

There are a variety of different games on ABCya. There are slider puzzles, movement games, math question games, Bingo, coding and more. There are games for math, games for language, games about geography, so many options. Each game focuses on academics, but is also fun. To me, this website seems like the “Netflix” of games. The games are all organized into categories and the website is very user-friendly. Young children would be able to navigate this website with very little adult help. That being said, it is always wise to supervise children when they are online! And there are some game instructions that an adult might have to read and explain to younger children, but all in all a very user-friendly website.

The games are also aligned to the Common Core Standards. There is a button called “Common Core” where you can search for games based on the standards they align with. I especially like this feature because then I know what my kids are supposed to be learning.

ABCya has three different subscription options. The Free Subscription allows a user to access the website through a desktop with limited access through mobile devices. It also displays ads. Students can play 6 games per week through the mobile access. The Premium Family subscription has no ads, gives complete mobile access and allows up to five devices to be logged into the website. The Premium Classroom subscription features no ads, complete mobile access and up to 30 devices to be logged into the website.

I know that this is a crazy time and some may be feeling like homeschooling or Distance Learning is a daunting task, but I hope these website features will offer you some support as you navigate these uncharted waters. I am praying for you all as you make decisions about the upcoming school year! I'm also praying that things will be back to "normal" soon! If there is any way I can help you please don't hesitate to reach out to me via email at Kelsea@TeacherGems.com or leave a comment below.
