New Bible Memory Curriculum!

Helping our students hide God's word in their hearts (Psalm 119:11) is a great responsibility and plays a vital role in equipping our children to become disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19). That's why I'm so excited to introduce my new Bible Memory Curriculum! It is a 36 week Bible memory curriculum that teaches a new verse (1-3 verses) each week and includes activities to go along with the verse(s) for every day of the week. The program is designed to be a…

Three Step Process

Step 1: Putting God’s Word in our Heads…by memorizing it.  Step 2: Putting God’s Word in our Heads (cont.)…by thinking about and explaining what the verse means. Step 3: Putting God’s Word in our Hearts…by describing how we will put the verse(s) into action (apply it) in our own lives.

All verses are taken from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. There are eight student page options included for each week as well as colorful posters for each week’s memory verse. All posters include visual cues to help students remember the verses. Plus I have included quite a few bonus posters to help explain the program. One bonus verse poster for Psalm 119:11 reads, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you" and gives purpose to why we want to memorize scripture. All posters are included in color and in printer-friendly black and white.

Each lesson is designed to take 15-20 minutes. The schedule is flexible and the days can be rearranged in order to spend more or less time on a lesson each day. You can combine this with your writing time on Tuesdays and Thursdays when students will be writing and explaining the verses. You can also choose whether to have students write or draw pictures (or both) on those days depending on the amount of time you have. A parent letter explaining the program is also included.

Sample Weekly Schedule

⇨ Monday: Introduce the new Bible memory verse for the week. Read the verse aloud from the Bible several times with students. Make sure to read it in context and define any difficult words. Ask students what they think the verse means and explain further if necessary. You may also want to look up related verses. Send home the new Bible memory verse for the week.

⇨ Tuesday: Read the verse of the week aloud and review its meaning. Have students explain what the verse means by writing about it and/or drawing a picture.

⇨ Wednesday: Read the verse of the week aloud as a class and have partners read it aloud to each other. Have students trace the verse.

⇨ Thursday: Apply It. Read the verse of the week aloud as a class. Have students write or draw a picture of how they will put the verse into action.

⇨ Friday: Fill in the blank test (or have students say it by heart and do the fill in the blank page earlier in the week or send home for homework).

Extension Ideas: Write out the verse on index cards (one word or a few on each card) then have students put the cards in order. Use the tune of a familiar song (i.e. The Farmer and the Dell, Yankee Doodle, 10 Little Indians, Mary had a Little Lamb, etc.) to help learn the verses.

Grading/Rewards: You can grade students weekly tests or use my free Bible memory sticker chart

Organization: For a fun keepsake, have students keep their Bible memory verses in a binder (and use my free Bible memory book cover). Just keep a sticky flag on the page you are on so students can quickly find the verse of the week.
